Martyn’s Law and What It Means for Security in the UK

Security planning is entering an important new phase as the UK prepares for the implementation of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act, commonly known as Martyn’s Law, something we're following closely here at Carter Security, providing you with relevant updates via our blog section.

On 11th September 2026, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) published an update outlining its role in implementation. Work includes determining which premises and events fall within scope, developing template resources and preparing a planned notification portal.

Industry organisations are also preparing for the changes. On 3rd September, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) and Fire Industry Association launched a joint Martyn’s Law Special Interest Group.

Why does Martyn’s Law matter?

The legislation places greater emphasis on preparedness and protective security. For businesses and organisations, this means understanding potential risks and considering appropriate measures to protect staff, customers and visitors.

Professional security provision can form an important part of a wider security strategy. However, every site is different, which is why a tailored approach is essential.

At Carter Security, we have more than 34 years of frontline experience within the UK security industry. Our approach starts with comprehensive risk assessments before developing an appropriate deployment programme for each client.

Whether providing manned guarding or specialist security for AGCs and casinos, our trained and licensed professionals understand the importance of remaining vigilant while delivering a professional service.

For organisations looking for quality security in the UK, choosing an experienced and trusted security company can provide valuable support as security expectations continue to develop.

Martyn’s Law is another reminder that security should be considered proactively rather than simply in response to an incident. Understanding your environment, identifying vulnerabilities and ensuring the right people and procedures are in place can all contribute to a stronger security strategy.
