The government Eat Out to Help Out scheme is drawing to a close, and restaurants up and down the country will soon be able to reflect on the last month's influx of customers who dined in at their venue to take advantage of the promotion.

However, whilst many businesses have enjoyed the extra custom and have seen a huge increase in the number of diners Monday -- Wednesday, many have had to face less than ideal circumstances -- something our security team have witnessed first-hand.

A recent BBC News article summarises this as the eat out to help out scheme causing hostility towards staff

The below quotes, from the article, demonstrate just how frustrating things have been for some business owners --

Owners says a surge in demand on these days has led to staff being shouted at, and "physical and mental stress".

"It has brought us nothing but negativity due to the huge demand, causing long waits on food, tables over-running and hostility towards our staff. People are ordering big, big meals; they are not willing to wait for their food; our staff are being shouted at for having no tables, or for the service being slow. It's put an awful lot of strain on our waiting staff and kitchen staff."

"Safety is our main priority, and with the increased amount of people visiting us, it is making it difficult for us to manage with social distancing rules in place. We have received unpleasant comments and general unwelcome behaviour from customers when they are unable to find a table due to us having reached capacity".

As you can see, whilst the scheme has bought increased business to the hospitality sector, which took a hard hit during Covid-19, it's bought with it a lot of unnecessary stress, primarily around antisocial behaviour towards staff.

This is something our door supervisors and security guards are highly training in managing, being experts in de-escalation techniques. We would know exactly when to step in to manage a situation and prevent it from becoming volatile, protecting your hard-working staff from verbal abuse or harm.
