The current economic climate and the rising cost of living have caused businesses up and down the country to close their doors. This means more and more commercial businesses, including the high street, are sitting empty. If you’re a landlord, having empty buildings whilst you wait for another tenant, could easily be cause for concern. Security should be at the top of your list to avoid vandalism, arson, or squatters taking advantage of your vacant properties.

There are several ways to keep your property safe, listed below.

  1. Invest in manned guarding and/or mobile patrols

Nothing will be more effective at securing your premises than physical security guards on site. Our security officers can be positioned at entrances/exits or be mobile via our electric vehicles. Highly trained, they’re quick to respond to suspicious behaviour and all of our security officers hold a valid SIA license.

  1. Ensure security signage is clearly visible

Signage is an excellent deterrent, able to showcase that you’ve invested in a security presence. We’ve designed our branding to be bold, clear and easily recognisable, making it obvious that you have a trusted, quality security provider looking after your building.

  1. Lock and windows and doors, and obscure visibility using shutters or paint

Ensure that you’ve invested in quality locks, and shutters and that you’ve blacked out windows so no one can see in. We’d advise against leaving valuables inside of a vacant building, but hiding the fact that it’s empty is most certainly advised. This includes any windows and doors to the back of the building too, not just at the front.

  1. Invest in lighting and CCTV

Motion-censored lighting and CCTV are highly advised. We can offer a CCTV monitoring service should you want to ensure that any suspicious activity caught on camera is investigated immediately. When installing CCTV, we can help advise on the most suitable positions, and you’ll need to actively manage any trees or shrubs that if overgrown could obscure visibility.

  1. Consider an alarm response service

Finally, it goes without saying that you’ll need a quality alarm system – but what do you do if the alarm is triggered? This is where we can help. Our alarm response service is exactly that, it gives you peace of mind that trained security professionals are dispatched once the alarm is sounded. This keeps you safe, and means that you have experienced security officers able to act quickly at the scene. We will detain individuals if needed and call the local authorities if required.
