We’re going to say it... the dreaded C-word – Christmas! Whilst it might seem a little early to start talking about Christmas trees, mince pies, and hanging the stockings up in front of the fire, it definitely isn’t too soon to talk about seasonal recruitment. With COVID-19 restrictions very much gone, this Christmas is no doubt going to be bigger than ever! That increased demand is going to put pressure on businesses over the festive season, so it will pay dividends to be prepared when it comes to staffing.

Carter Staffing specialises in supporting businesses to meet their staffing needs, and this includes seasonal demands too. We’re highly adaptable, and fast, and pride ourselves on delivering! Below we summarise our recruitment top tips.

Be specific in your job descriptions and set clear expectations.

With any new recruit, you will need to have a strong sense of the specific duties and responsibilities of the job you’re filling.  This is especially important with seasonal workers. Their onboarding process will need to be quick, so to avoid any confusion, lay out exactly what you’re looking for and what they’ll be doing in the initial job specification.

The next – and arguably most difficult step - is to stick to that job description, avoiding the temptation to give that seasonal employee increased responsibilities beyond what was initially asked. Prioritise those tasks to people who have more experience within your organisation instead, keeping your seasonal workers clear on their roles and expectations to avoid disappointment. This is why writing such a detailed job description in the first instance is so important!

If you’re working with an employment agency like us, Carter Staffing, be sure to inform them of your specific time frame and key expectations – as well as share the detail surrounding the specific role you’re recruiting for. This makes it much more likely that we’ll be able to recruit the best people for the role, saving your business time and, most importantly, money in the long run.

Connect with an exceptional recruitment agency.

A good relationship with your recruiter is essential to successful seasonal hiring! As a company local to Wisbech, we understand the local area exceptionally well. We also understand the importance of hiring the right people to represent your business, knowing they’ll be an extension of your team.
